A traffic ticket in Knoxville is soon going to cost you a little bit more.
The city council approved a plan Tuesday that will add a $5 fee to pay for an e-ticketing system. The new system will cost between $250,000 and $400,000, and that extra $5 tacked onto speeding tickets will pay for it.
The Knoxville Police Department says e-citations will cut down on paperwork and speed up the ticket process, which keeps officers safer on the roads.
Under state law, the city will only be able to collect the fee for five years.
