Council approves measure to increase towing fees

At Tuesday evening's meeting, city council members approved a rule that raises rates charged by towing companies.

The changes affect only the tows under contract through the city, not private rates.

Council members approved an amended version that would raise rates 10 percent each year for the next three years.

Wrecker services say the rate, set by the city, has not increased in seven years. The increase will help companies cover expenses.

City council still must give second approval to the amended proposal.
