Curling interest spikes in Knoxville during Olympics

ID=5554375(WBIR, Knoxville) - Tennessee isn't always associated with the winter sport of curling, but there is one Knoxville club where you can learn more about the sport.

The Great Smoky Mountains Curling Club plays a few times a week at the Ice Chalet.

The sport involves throwing granite stones across the ice to a set of painted circles at the other end.

It involves a lot of teamwork and strategy. In fact, it's often called "chess on ice."

The local club has been around for about 10 years, and they said every winter Olympic season interest in the sport spikes.

This month, they're offering learn to curl classes.

For more information, you can head to www.curlknoxville.com.

There is also a UT Curling Club. If you are a student and interested in curling, you can contact curling@utk.edu.
