Disabled American Veterans group will help vets get benefits

East Tennessee veterans are getting some help navigating the benefits and services they've earned.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) mobile service officer stopped in Sevierville on Thursday.

The mobile service visits local chapters twice a year.

The group says many of the veterans it helps don't even know about their benefits.

"We just had a lady here, her father is 85-years-old and was in occupied Japan and was told he would never get any benefits. And they're out there. You know, veterans through all the ages coming down have been told there's no government benefits for you. Thank you for your service. Goodbye. When they're actually out there," said John Fink of DAV.

The DAV services are free for all veterans and their families. You can find out more about the organization and how they can help you by visiting their website.
