Dolly's Imagination Library hits new milestone

Oct. 25, 2016: Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has reached a new milestone of sending 1 million books each month to kids around the world.

Dolly Parton’s organization Imagination Library reached a new milestone this week. The organization now sends free books to over one million families in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. each month.

Parton started the organization back in 1995 in her home county of Sevier, and it has only gained momentum.

The mission is to spark imagination and to encourage a love of books in preschoolers regardless of their income. Every month Parton selects a “Book of the Month” which the organization will then mail to families and counties participating in the program.

Since its start, Imagination Library as mailed over 60,000,000 books with about 1,600 communities have joined forces with Parton and her organization.

Parton celebrated the milestone with an announcement on Twitter Tuesday.
