Donations help save this year's Dandridge fireworks

(WBIR - Dandridge) Shakin' the Lake, an annual Fourth of July celebration in Dandridge, is back on thanks to several donors that stepped up to save this year's event.

Jean Riggs, the owner of Steamer Trunk and Campus Cargo, said Shakin' the Lake needed $3,500 to continue this year so she asked several other local businesses to donate.

"It's one of the major things we do every year," Riggs said. "And everyone felt terrible that we weren't going to have it this year."

Riggs said 29 businesses and donors gave more than that amount to ensure the celebration will go on as planned.

"People bring their lawn chairs and picnics, and that lake is bumper to bumper boats," Riggs said. "Everybody loves it."

The fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. on July 3 at The Point. Before the fireworks, there will be face painting, free balloons, and music in the pavilion featuring The Fairview Union.

Parking will be $10, which will go toward a $5,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club.
