McClung Warehouse coming down, piece by piece

After doing a lot of prep work over the weekend, crews began the process Monday of actually demolishing the remaining McClung Warehouse buildings.

After a large fire last weekendheavily damaged or destroyed the remains of the historic buildings, the city made the decision to demolish the warehouse for safety reasons.

JW Construction crews worked over the weekend to prepare the site for demolition, but the work of actually bringing the building down really started Monday morning around 8:45 am.

Heavy equipment was digging into the building, bringing it down piece by piece. It's hoped the much of the structure, including bricks, can be saved and recylced, so that is also slowing down the work.

It's expected to take a couple of days to bring the building down, and then several weeks to clean up the site.

The city hopes to sell the property to a developer with a good plan to revitalize the area.

Jackson Avenue will remain closed until the building is no longer standing.
