Pride of the Southland marches on

(WBIR - University of Tennessee) While many fans focused on the field, others were paying close attention to the "Pride of the Southland" band.

On Friday, "The Rock" on campus was painted in support for embattled band director Gary Sousa. The university placed him on administrative leave on Monday, for what the university calls "insubordination."

While the Rock has since been painted over, there was still plenty of support for the Pride as they marched Saturday morning for the Vol Walk.

Fans of the band still took pictures, and cheered them on before their trek to Neyland Stadium. They tell us the controversy should be left aside, and the students should continue to play on.

"This is Tennessee... it's the band, it's the Vol Walk... it's the Vol Navy... it's all Tennessee," said parent Dwayne Taylor.

Included in Saturday's game was the "circle drill." Band parents tell us members worked on it for three weeks. The band played it during halftime.
