A North Korean native honored local veterans of the Korean War on Tuesday.
Dr. Tom Kim, founder of the Free Medical Clinic of America, treated more than 40 veterans from the Knoxville area to lunch at Shoney's. Dr. Kim was born in North Korea and fled the country with his family as a child.
"I always admired the Korean War veterans. They're family members. If they didn't come to Korea 60 years ago, I wouldn't be here today. With Christmas coming, I like to have lunch with all the Korean vets here in Knoxville area," said Dr. Kim.
The Korean War started in June 1950 and ended in July 1953.
