Knoxville officer back at home after accident Wednesday

Update 10:00 a.m.

The officer involved in a crash Wednesday afternoon was released from the hospital overnight.

The officer, Nathanael Skellenger, 28, had been taken to UT Medical Center after his cruiser crashed into a median on I-640.

Skellenger's K9 unit partner, Ammo, was not injured in the accident.

A Knoxville Police officer was taken to the hospital after being involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon.

According to KPD, the officer was driving west on I-640 near Millertown Pike when he suffered a medical problem that caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The cruiser traveled across three lanes of the interstate and into the median.

The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He did have a K-9 dog with him when he crashed. The dog did not appear to be injured, but was being examined by other K-9 officers.

No one else was injured.

The officer had just finished his shift and was heading home.
