R/Cs hit the track for Toys for Tots

(WBIR - Knoxville) Some tiny cars had a big day at the dirt tracks, looking to brighten up the holidays for some children.

Battlefield R/C hosted more than 60 competitors for its 6th annual Toys for Tots Race at Chilhowee Park Saturday.

The little gas-powered, remote-control vehicles raced around the Pavilion inside the park. The admission cost was a toy donation to Toys for Tots.

The racers know these toys can mean so much to local children who might not have the luxury of a big Christmas.

"I've been on the end of giving gifts for some of these children and see that that might be the only gift they receive during Christmas," said Brian Looper. "And that's a very powerful thing and it means a lot, especially to the kids...and it's a wonderful thing the Marines do for that organization."

According to the Radio Operated Car Club of Knoxville, the races helped bring in more than 120 toys for the holidays.
