East Tenn. soldier promoted posthumously

Governor Haslam announced Wednesday a soldier killed in action last week with East Tennessee ties is receiving a promotion posthumously.

Daniel Lee will be promoted to staff sergeant. He'll also receive three medals, The Tennessee Fallen Heroes Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.

Enemy forces shot and killed him while on patrol in Afghanistan last week.

Lee's family said he grew up in Kentucky but moved to Powell in 2005 to straighten his life out. He also lived in Crossville for a time. He is survived by a wife and son who live in Arizona.

Governor Haslam also declared this Saturday a day of mourning and ordered flags at half staff.
