East Tennesseans celebrate Easter with sunrise services

Patrons gather for service at St. John's Lutheran Church

Several East Tennessee churches held sunrise services this morning to celebrate the holiday.

Ober Gatlinburg held its annual sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Several ministers from the area were part of the service. Worshippers could take the aerial tram up to the top of the mountain and take in the view of a Smoky Mountains sunrise.

St. John's Lutheran Church in Knoxville also held an Easter sunrise service. The church has gathered in the Old Gray Cemetery on Easter morning since 2004. The service included bagpipers, prayer and other songs.

Other events are also taking place today.

The Lonesome Dove and Crowne Plaza are hosting Easter lunches beginning at 11.
