The Knoxville Jewish Community Center held a gathering Thursday evening to show its support for Israel amid the ongoing conflict.
People gathered at the Amstein Jewish Community Center in West Knoxville.
They wrote letters and prayed for Israeli soldiers while lighting candles for those who died.
One person says the fighting hits far too close to home.
"We had some young people touring last week, last couple weeks, in Israel. Their itineraries were shifted; sometimes they had to head to the bomb shelters as well," said Jeff Gubitz, executive director of the Knoxville Jewish Alliance.
The Jewish Federation Across North America has been asked to raise $12 million for humanitarian causes. You can donate by texting "Israel" to 51818, and they'll text you back asking how much you want to donate.
