Gov. Bill Haslam plans Tennessee education summit

Gov. Bill Haslam will meet with Tennessee's top lawmakers, educators, business leaders and advocates this month to discuss the future of education policy in the state.

Haslam joined Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey and House Speaker Beth Harwell Tuesday to announce the statewide summit on K-12 education, which will take place Sept. 18 in Nashville.

"This is a chance to review where we've been, take a look at where we are today, and make sure we're planning for where we want to go," Haslam said in a statement.

Representatives of local governments, school systems and businesses will be invited to the summit, along with state senators and representatives. Haslam said stakeholders in Tennessee's higher education system would also attend.
