McMinn County student forced to change t-shirt after dresscode violation

McMinn County Director of Schools Mickey Blevins said the school doesn't allow students to wear shirts with wording on them unless it's a school shirt.

ATHENS - A McMinn County High School student was forced to change her t-shirt featuring a U.S. Marine Corps logo.

McMinn County Director of Schools Mickey Blevins said the school doesn't allow students to wear shirts with wording on them unless it's a school shirt.

He said this case has nothing to do with the school's patriotism.

A Facebook post Thursday said the girl "is very supportive of the military and plans to go into the military."

The student finished the school day with a shirt brought in from home.

Blevins met with the family of the student and said the school system is reviewing its dresscode.

An update to Thursday's Facebook post went on to say, "The shirt was itself not offensive, it just was not in compliance with the school board's dresscode."

The woman in the post thanked the school board for taking time out of their day to to discuss the matter.

The school district has added the female student to a committee looking into the dresscode policy.
