Knox County school board vice chair Amber Rountree will lead a three-person committee tasked with screening and recommending a new superintendent.
The school system announced the committee membership Friday afternoon.
Rountree's committee will include board members Tony Norman and Susan Horn. Board chair Patti Bounds appointed the members.
The committee is expected to take a number of months to screen potential leaders for the 59,000-student system. More than 7,000 employees work in the system.
The full board will pick the superintendent.
Buzz Thomas, president of the Great Schools Partnership, which works with the school system, is interim superintendent. He replaced Jim McIntyre, who resigned in July after serving as superintendent about eight years.
Horn and Norman are newly elected members of the school board. Rountree was elected in 2014.
School board members approved creating the committee Wednesday at their regular meeting.
According to the school system, the committee likely will meet before next month's board meeting.
Bounds has said system officials are operating under a "very tight" schedule to hire a new schools leader.
