(WBIR-Farragut) You don't have to go all the way to Germany for authentic German food. Just come to Farragut to Restaurant Linderhof.
Aaron Schmissrauter is the owner. He makes sure the ambiance is German.
"We've been in Farragut for about 15 years and it's always been a little bit of a different ambiance. It's supposed to feel like you're in the Linderhof castle room," he said. "And at the old location it was a little bit over the top kitschy And when we moved here I wanted to split things up a little bit so the dining hall still has that kind of elegant you feel like you're in a castle kind of feel but the bar is more of a casual atmosphere more of a beer hall, kind of festive. We had the world cup going on with all the tvs on and we have a nice patio as well."
German beer is popular at the restaurant but the real attraction is the food.
"Our signature dish is probably the schweinshaxe which is the oven roasted pork shank. We serve that on sauerkraut with German fried potatoes," he said. "Linderhof has always been a big food kind of place. You get plenty to eat. It's all from scratch. And I will add we have a trans fat free kitchen. We don't use any trans fat oils to cook with. All your typical kind of German fare. The sausages, the schnitzel, all of which I was trained to make by the original owner who was Bavarian from Germany. And a lot of our guests who have a German background - they were stationed there or they're German or whatever -- they are usually very pleased we've kept the authenticity up."
