Bear activity is at peak this time of year. For residents in the Smoky Mountains it's nothing new. Still, it's good to know what to do when you come across one of these furry friends.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) knows it's hard to avoid bears with with tourist attractions like Gatlinburg nestled in the heart of the bears' habitat.
"Bears are interested in primarily feeding, getting calorie intake. They have to have calorie intake for things like over winter and breeding, things like this. Generally if you give a bear its distance, stay back and respect that it is a wild animal, you know it's just going to go on and do its thing."
Go to USA Today and take the quiz to see what kind of bear you would be.
