Formal swearing-in held for Judge Reeves

State and national leaders held a formal swearing-in ceremony Friday for the newest federal judge in East Tennessee.

The Honorable Pamela Reeves took the oath of office in March, but took part in a formal ceremony Friday.

President Obama first appointed Reeves to replace Judge Thomas Phillips last May. Congress confirmed the decision earlier this year.

Governor Bill Haslam took part in the ceremony, along with a group of Girl Scouts.

"I hope they look forward to a day in their lives when they'll be able to be the one on stage instead of one doing the pledge. But I was very happy to be there and I have enjoyed the opportunity to maybe to be a role model to a lot of young people," said Judge Reeves.

Judge Reeves graduated from the University of Tennessee and practiced law in Knoxville for more than 30 years. She also served as the first female president of the Tennessee Bar Association.
