Fountain City Park vandalized overnight, leaving Lions Club to pick up the pieces

KNOXVILLE - Fountain City Park in North Knoxville was the target of vandalism between Friday and Saturday morning.

At least ten lights were shattered, trash was scattered around the park and a KUB meter box was smashed.

The park is not owned or operated by the city, so it cannot receive funding for the repairs. The Fountain City Lions Club maintains the park through fundraising efforts.

Roger Byrd with the Lions Club said its looking for help from the community to pay for the damages.

"It does kind of wear on you when somebody comes in and tears something up that is perfectly fine," Byrd said. "We'll just have to dig in and pull some money out of another part of the budget because we don't have any budgeted for vandalism itself."

Byrd said he wasn't sure how much it will cost to repair all the damage. If you'd like to help, call the Fountain City Lions Club at (865) 215-4311.
