Georgia man killed in GSMNP crash

A 59-year-old Georgia man died in a single-vehicle collision at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Thursday night.

GATLINBURG - A 59-year-old Georgia man died in a single-vehicle collision at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Thursday night.

The public affairs office with GSMNP said the man crashed a 2005 Ford truck on southbound Spur around 11:23 p.m. Thursday.

GSMNP rangers believe a tree along the road appeared to have fallen on the truck.

Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Gatlinburg Fire Department transported the man to the Le Conte Medical Center.

There were no passengers in the truck.

The Gatlinburg Police Department also provided assistance in the collision.
