GREENE COUNTY, TENN. - Greene County emergency crews responded to reports of a gas leak at the U.S. Nitrogen plant in Midway on Wednesday evening.

According to Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins, there was a large yellow cloud of gas with no smell when he arrived at the Pottertown Road site.

Hankins said everything is under control and no one is in danger.

A heavy rain cleared the cloud up.

U.S. Nitrogen employees have found the leak and repaired it. A hazmat team is still on scene monitoring air quality.

U.S. Nitrogen is a subsidiary of Austin Powder Company. The Cleveland, Ohio-based company specializes in manufacturing industrial explosives used in mining.

The plant in Greene County produces liquid ammonium nitrate. According to the company's website, the liquid ammonium nitrate is a non-combustible component of the finished product.
