Gym business slow to start the New Year

East Tennessee gyms say they are still waiting to see a boost from the post-New Year surge in enrollment.

They say the slow start is typical after the first few days in January.

Fitness trainers at Workout Anytime in Powell say they expect enrollment to pick up over the next two to three weeks. Many people wait a short while after the holidays to officially start their resolutions.

"This is the beginning of a new lifestyle," said trainer John Hefner. "It's not a diet that's going to get you where you need to be in four months. It's not weight training or a personal trainer that's going to get you where you need to be in the next four months. It's actually here where I begin to change my life. It's health insurance everybody could really afford."

Hefner suggests staying active to achieve your new year goals. He said a personal trainer can help get you started.
