(WBIR) A student at Mountain View Youth Development Center passed away this weekend, from what appear to be self-inflicted injuries. It's the second death at the facility in the past several weeks.
Both deaths are under investigation.
The center is a Department of Children's Services facility for youths that typically have three or more felony charges.
According to Rob Johnson, communications director for DCS, they believe the student hanged himself in his dorm room Friday morning. The student was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital and then to UT Medical Center. He passed away Saturday evening.
In mid-July, another student hung himself and died. Both deaths are under investigation by DCS, local law enforcement, and medical examiners.
The facility said counselors and therapists will be available to assist the students and staff members. Next week, Mountain View officials expect suicide-prevention experts to arrive as well.
