Hundreds compete in Bassmaster Northern Open today

(WBIR) More than 300 anglers from around the world are in East Tennessee, searching for the biggest bass in Douglas Lake.

The first cast in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open happened at 6 a.m. Thursday on Douglas Lake.

Over the next two days, 188 boats will fill Douglas Lake, competing for a spot in the finals The top 12 boats will fish Saturday.

Bassmaster has been to Douglas Lake five times over the past few years.

"When you have a great host community and a great host organization like you have in Dandridge, Tenn., Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, there's reasons you come back," said tournament manager Chris Bowes. "And then you throw in the great fishery and the tremendous opportunities around here as far as restaurants and accommodations-- it's just a really good fit for our events."
