Man charged with killing neighbor in 10-year-old cold case

A Cocke County man is now charged with killing his neighbor more than ten years ago.

According to District Attorney General James Dunn, a special grand jury indicted Boyd James, 60, of Hartford, on first degree murder charges in the shooting death of Randy Grooms.

Grooms was found shot to death on May 25, 2004, at a home on Big Creek Road in Hartford.

James was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and violation of the sex offender registry.

Officers arrested him before an unrelated court appearance Wednesday. He's being held in the Cocke County Jail without bond.
