A Morristown woman was killed Tuesday when her car was hit by a train.
According to investigators with the Morristown Police Department, Mary Devotie, 79, drove her car through the crossing barricade at South Liberty Hill Road and Main Street. Her car was hit by a Norfolk Southern train and pushed 83 feet down the track then down an embankment.
Witness said that Devotie stopped once she was on the tracks, and it appeared that she was trying to change gears. When investigators looked at the car, it was in park. They speculate she may have been trying to put the car in reverse but put it in park by mistake.
