An East Tennessee man is facing a drug charge after a crash involving a tanker truck on Interstate 81 Thursday afternoon.

GREENE COUNTY - An East Tennessee man is facing a drug charge after a crash involving a tanker truck on Interstate 81 Thursday afternoon.

Cornelio Ortiz, 26, of Jonesborough is charged with simple possession and driving with a revoked license, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Four people were injured in the crash on I-81 North near Fish Hatchery Road.  It happened shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities airlifted one person to an area hospital. No word as of Friday morning on the extent of their injuries.

Two people were passengers in Ortiz’s 1998 Honda Accord, including a 1-year-old boy.

Ortiz lost control of the Accord, crossed over lanes and hit the guardrail. His car bounced off the guardrail and back into the lane.

Ortiz hit another woman driving a tanker truck, sending it off the road and rolling onto its side.

The crash shut down part of I-81 North for multiple hours Thursday night.  That section of the interstate has since reopened.
