(WBIR - Knox County) The westbound lanes of I-40 have reopened after being closed for nearly an hour Sunday afternoon because of a fire on a car hauler in Knox County.
As of 2:30 p.m. Sunday, TDOT reported traffic was still backed up for nearly 10 miles on I-40 west near the Midway Road exit.
KFD spokesperson D.J. Corcoran said around 11 a.m. the department responded to a call reporting a car hauler on fire in the west bound lane of I-40 at the Midway Road exit.
A passing motorist reportedly made the driver of the eighteen wheeler aware of the fire.
Corcoran said the fire appears to have started around the rear wheels of the tractor, and then engulfed two of the vehicles before being extinguished.
The late model used cars were being transported to an auto auction. No injuries have been reported.
