'Inside Tennessee': State GOP chairman, local Democrat leader

KNOXVILLE - The departing head of the state GOP and an official with the county Democratic Party agree – this month’s presidential election caught everyone by surprise and both parties need to be ready to adjust.

State GOP chairman Ryan Haynes and Emily Gregg, the secretary of the Knox County Democratic Party, will be the guests on Sunday’s edition of “Inside Tennessee” on WBIR 10News.

Haynes, on the job about 20 months, said overseeing the state party proved challenging for him because of the party’s diverse and sprawling nature.

Gregg said that although local Democrats lost contested races, party members still feel good about their future.

She said Democrats are in it for the long haul and expect to make gains in the future.

Right now Republicans in the state Legislature hold a super-majority that negates the Democrats ability to oppose much of anything the GOP might pursue.

The 30-minute political and public affairs program, which was taped Wednesday, kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on WBIR.

Anchor John Becker serves as the show’s moderator.
