KAT offers free rides Friday, introduces new trip planning tool

"Try Transit" Week encourages bus riding.

Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is encouraging people to try a different way to get around Knoxville this week.

About 10,000 people use the KAT buses every day in Knoxville, but they are hoping to increase those numbers.

During Try Transit Week, from July 11-16, KAT will roll out several new features designed to make using the bus system easier, including new east Superstop, a new neighborhood service bus, and a new trip planning system.

The new Google Trip Planner will allow you to plan your trips quickly and easily. You simply enter your starting location, where you want to go, and when you want to be there.

In addition, they will offer free rides on Friday, July 15,  to encourage everyone to give the KAT bus system a try.
