KFD K9 nominated for Hero Dog Awards

(WBIR) A top dog at the Knoxville Fire Department needs your help to win a big national award.

Bailey, an Arson K9 who has been helping KFD investigate fires since 2009, is in the running for the American Humane Society's 2014 Hero Dog Awards.

Her handler, Cpt. Travis Kincaid, said Bailey has worked more than 150 cases for the department and many more while helping other places throughout East Tennessee.

"She can take something that typically would take two or three investigators, five or six hours to dig through, she can take that same scene and have it processed within just a matter of minutes," Kincaid said.

When she's off the job her handler says Bailey is just like any other dog. She likes to play ball and get into things. Other members of the department, said teamwork really helps Bailey succeed.

"A working dog is only as good as their handler. And we're very proud of Travis. He's very committed to Bailey and Bailey is committed to him and they make a very good team," Assistant Fire Chief Danny Beeler said.

First-round voting for the 2014 Hero Dog Awards is open now through June 6th. The three dogs with the most vote in each category will move on to the next round. You can find Bailey in the Arson K9 category. You can vote once every day.
