Knox BOE member Kincannon stepping down

Indya Kincannon, who represents the second district on the Knox County Board of Education, has announced she will step down in August.

Kincannon says she is moving with her family to Slovenia for nine months, where her husband was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant to teach law. Her husband, Ben Barton, works for the University of Tennessee College of Law.

"It's been our long-time dream to live abroad with our kids, so we are happily accepting this amazing opportunity," Kincannon said on her website.

The County Commission will be tasked with appointing her replacement on the school board. Her current term ends in August 2016.

Kincannon is currently in her third term and has held the position since 2004.
