Knox Co. sheriff: Body cameras coming soon

The Knox County Sheriff's Office will soon be getting a technology upgrade.

"We're getting ready to institute about 15 body cameras. They'll be coming online within the next couple of months," said Sheriff J.J. Jones.

The cameras snap on to an officer's uniform. They help record run-ins with criminals and can sometimes capture crime as it happens.

Officers in Etowah and Pigeon Forge already use the cameras. When we caught up with them last year, they said the cameras cost about $900 a piece.

Sheriff Jones did not give an exact timetable on when deputies will start using them, but he said he can talk more about department's plan to use body cameras Friday.
