Knoxville man accused of altering mileage before selling car

A Knoxville man is charged with identity theft and odometer fraud for trying to sell a used car for a better price.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol's Criminal Investigation Division arrested Patrick Wayne Davis on Thursday. Investigators say Davis advertised a 2004 Honda Accord on Craigslist as a low mileage vehicle, even though it really had more than 120,000 miles.

He also posed as the original owner of the car by pretending to be a man from Michigan.

The car was sold in Bradley County, and that's where the investigation began.

He is being held in the Knox County jail.
