(WBIR - Knoxville) Knoxville is getting closer to trying to win the battle against homelessness.
Thursday, the city reviewed its new community plan to address the problem that's said to be one of the city's most challenging.
City and community leaders have been working on the plan for two years and are now prepared to bring it before the city council for adoption in the coming weeks.
"The goal is to first of all prevent homelessness as much as possible. And secondly, when people experience homelessness, to try to get them back into housing as quickly as possible," said Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero.
If the plan is adopted, work will begin immediately to put it into place.
