For the first time in decades, Knoxville is asking state officials to manage a prescribed burn.
The burn this fall will happen in a 1.4 acre section of the Baker Creek Preserve near Taylor Road in the Urban Wilderness.
Knoxville Urban Forester Kasey Krouse said the soil is disturbed and there's a lot of debris making the park more difficult to manage.
The goal of the burn is to better control invasive species and help native species in the long-run.
"The bigger concern is if we do nothing in allowing these invasive species to take over, we may lose our opportunity to be able to manage this park," Krouse said.
Krouse said the date for the burn hasn't been set yet.
