Knoxville Police have identified the two people killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday while riding what police say was a stolen motorcycle.
Police say the 2016 Yamaha R1 was traveling west on I-40 between West Hills and Gallaher View Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear end of a semi truck around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
The motorcycle driver, 22-year-old Tashanti U. Underwood, of Harriman, and a passenger, 27-year-old Esean A. Phillips, of Knoxville, were thrown from the motorcycle. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of them were wearing helmets, according to KPD.
The driver of the semi, 59-year-old Frederick V. Hodges, of Oro-Medonte, Ontario, was uninjured.
According to KPD, the motorcycle was stolen minutes before the crash during a burglary of a Knoxville business.
Police do not expect to file charges from the crash. KPD is still investigating the incident.
