KPD: Man killed by rolling pickup truck

KPD is investigating the death of an elderly man found dead under a rolled-over car.

It appears a Knoxville man was killed while trying to stop his truck from rolling down a hill.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, Dennis L. Stewart, 68, was found dead in a wooded area near his home on Ridgewood Road on Monday.

Investigators believe Stewart was getting into or out of his truck when it began to roll down the hill. They think he tried to stop the truck but was pulled down the hill until the truck hit a tree.

Stewart was pinned between the truck and the tree.

Investigators say it was likely the accident happened a few days ago.

Knoxville Police say a man was found dead under his car door in North Knoxville Monday night. 

Police were called to Ridgewood Road about 9:45 p.m. When they arrived, police found a homeowner underneath the driver's side door of his vehicle. It appeared that the vehicle had rolled down a hill into some brush, according to KPD.

Police said a neighbor had observed the vehicle and then found the man's body. 

The man's identity has not been released. Police are working to notify his family.

The Knox County Medical Examiner, KPD's Reconstructive Team and Forensics are investigating the incident.
