KPD identifies men injured in shooting, fight

Officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to a call of a fight and a separate call of shots fired at the same address early Tuesday morning.

KNOXVILLE - UPDATE: Knoxville police are identifying the two men who suffered injuries early Wednesday during what appeared to have been a drug deal and a robbery.

About 1:42 a.m. Knoxville Police Department officers were called to 4301 Tomlinson St. about a fight. A resident, Falcon Martin, was hit in the head with a bottle, according to KPD.

While authorities were at the address. 911 dispatchers were alerted about a shooting.  

A neighbor told 911 a man had knocked on his door and told him he'd been shot. Police found him near Tomlinson and Buckner Avenue.

The victim, Devon Sullivan, suffered "serious" injuries, according to KPD.

Sullivan and Martin were being treated at University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Police interviewed people who were at the house at the time of the fight and shooting.

"According to the preliminary investigation, the altercation occurred during a drug deal and robbery attempt. Investigators are conferring with the District Attorney General’s Office and charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation," a statement from KPD reads.

Law enforcement officers found a man who had been shot near Tomlinson Street and Buckner Avenue around 1:42 a.m. Wednesday. One of the neighbors in the area told police the man knocked on his door, stating he'd been shot.

KPD found another person with a head injury from the fight upon arriving at a home on 4300 block of Tomlinson Street.

Authorities took both people to the University of Tennessee for treatment. Both people are expected to recover.

KPD took the other residents of the home to the KPD Violent Crimes Unit for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

 

On November 2, 2016, at approximately 1:42 a.m., officers responded to a fight at 4301 Tomlinson Street. During the course of the fight, officers received a second report indicating shots had been fired. The shots were heard by 911 call takers while taking the complaint.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found one of the residents bleeding from a head wound from an assault. The male, Falcon Martin, had been struck in the head with a bottle. One of the neighbors then reported to 911 that a male had been knocking on his door and stating he had been shot. Officers found the male gunshot victim near Tomlinson Street and Buckner Avenue. The gunshot victim was identified as Devon Sullivan. Both subjects were transported to UT Medical Center. The gunshot victim was suffering from serious injuries. All of the additional residents who were in the home during the confrontation were transported to the Safety Building for questioning.

According to the preliminary investigation, the altercation occurred during a drug deal and robbery attempt. Investigators are conferring with the District Attorney General’s Office and charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
