Update: 4:30 pm. Kentucky State Police said that the little girl who was hit by a car Monday afternoon died at the hospital just after 2 pm on Tuesday.
Kentucky State Police said a 22-month-old child is in critical condition after she was hit by a car.
Officials said a Ford Mustang hit the toddler while crossing a street in Barbourville shortly before 2:45 p.m. Police said the driver stopped to let two children pass, but didn't see the 22-month-old. The child fell under the car and was hit by one of the vehicle's rear tires.
Emergency workers took her to the Knox County Hospital in Kentucky before she was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
The young girl is still alive, but is in critical condition.
Authorities said they don't believe drugs and alcohol were involved in the accident, and the driver isn't expected to face any charges.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
Editor's note: Kentucky State Police told WBIR 10News Monday night that the toddler passed away from her injuries. But Tuesday morning, officials corrected that information, confirming that the child is still alive and in critical condition.
