Lemonade stand raises money for girl with cancer

(WBIR- Knoxville) Lemonade stands are a common way for children to make a little extra money. One local girl is bringing in the cash, but she's not keeping it for herself.

Six-year-old Makenzie Pannell is raising money for a little girl she's never met who has cancer.

Pannell said she heard about 5-year-old Kylie Overton while playing in a ball tournament last weekend.

"We got medals, and it had her name on the back of it, first and last," Pannell said.

Overton's grandmother, Teresa Cline, said Kylie has a rare form of cancer that doesn't even have a name.

When Pannell found out Overton had cancer, she said she decided to sell lemonade at her aunt's yard sale. Pannell's uncle, Matt Clinard, built the lemonade stand.

"When I heard the story, it brought tears to my eyes," Clinard said. "Not knowing the little girl and just doing it."

So far, Pannell said she has made around $100, but she doesn't plan on keeping any of it.

"Makenzie has a heart of gold, and she's just willing to help out a total stranger," Clinard said.
