Lightning Rod coaster no longer in ride rehearsal mode

Sept. 5, 2016: The Lightning Rod coaster opened this season, but was soon closed after a parts recall by the ride manufacturer.

PIGEON FORGE - Dollywood's Lightning Rod roller coaster is no longer in technical rehearsal mode, park officials confirmed Monday.

While it has been open to guests during its most recent "ride rehearsal mode," the designation let guests know that it could suddenly close for a period of time during their visit.

The much-anticipated roller coaster faced a series of delays during it's debut Dollywood season.

Lightning Rod, the world's fastest wooden coaster, was supposed to welcome riders at the start of the season, but its opening was pushed back until mid-June.

Then just a few days after its grand opening, it was shut down again because of a manufacturer part recall.

Two weeks later, the ride reopened in technical rehearsal mode. It's been that way since late June.
