Look Rock reopens after crews repair vandalized tower

(WBIR) Park officials reopened Look Rock tower and trail after vandals damaged its radio equipment.

On Monday, crews finished repairs to the tower earlier than expected.

In April, the Blount County Sheriff's Office noticed that its radio communications were breaking up. When officials checked the radio equipment, which is located on the tower at Look Rock, they discovered that vandals damaged it with rocks.

Those radio repeaters were neccesary for emergency communiction for the sheriff's office, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service and Fort Loudon Electric. The tower also housed an Air Quality monitoring site.

Officials arrested seveal people they believe are responsible for the vandalism.
