KNOXVILLE - Some said it would never happen.
Some doubted April was even pregnant.
But some continued to watch April the giraffe every day.
"I started watching in February and I've watched daily. I've not missed but one day since," April fan Mary Jane Greenlee said.
Greenlee is an original member of the Facebook group, "Friends of April the Giraffe and WBIR." At the time of April's delivery the group had grown to over 1,800 members.
"Everybody says they're going to have to go to AA - April Anonymous, to get weaned off it because we've been watching so long," Greenlee said. "Some of the housewives will say 'my husband is excited that it's going to go off soon so that I'll start cooking dinner instead of takeout every night and my house will finally get clean."
Animal Adventure Park said 1.2 million people watched April give birth Saturday morning on their YouTube live stream.
Labor began around 7:20 a.m. and the male calf was born at 9:53 a.m.
The park has not yet released details on the calf's height and weight, but both mother and calf are healthy, according to a press release from Animal Adventure Park.
"It was just the biggest excitement in my life to see," Greenlee said. "I've seen dogs, cats, rabbits... nothing like a giraffe baby."
Greenlee says she'll never forget the multi-month birth saga because of the community that bonded over the event.
"Animals can unite people. Animals can bring us back together," Greenlee said. "This brought us all together. Every nationality, every color and we communicated and we became family. There're friends on there that will be my friends forever."
