Driver in fatal Blount Co. crash to be charged with vehicular homicide

The driver investigators say caused a fatal, three-car crash in Blount County Monday will face charges.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office says Jason Dyer, 27, will be charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment.

Late Monday morning, BCSO says Dyer was speeding on Highway 411 near Springview Road.

When Dyer began passing other vehicles in the middle lane, deputies said he lost control of his car and struck 19-year-old Haley Sparks' Pontiac Firebird.

Sparks' car then hit 72-year-old Lola D. Walker's Toyota Camry traveling in the other lane, killing her and injuring her passenger 76-year-old James L. Gray. The impact flung Dyer out of his passenger side window and onto the roadway.

Crews airlifted Jason Dyer to UT Medical Center for his injuries, where he is listed in stable condition. Blount County deputies said Sparks and Gray were released from the hospital on Tuesday.

On Sunday morning, Blount County deputies arrested Dyer for DUI and drug charges, and he bonded out later that day. On Monday., officials said Dyer caused that fatal accident on Highway 411.

Blount County officials said his toxicology report will be done in six-to-eight weeks.
