Group home worker charged with abuse

A woman is facing charges after police say she abused a resident at a Blount County group home.

Maryville police arrested Charity Powell on Saturday at the home on Cherry Street.

Police say Powell works at the home and came in on her day off to drop off medication for a resident, when the 65-year-old victim used the bathroom on the floor. Police say Powell then pushed the woman down on the floor, scratching her neck, face and shoulders.

Powell is charged with abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult.

She is out of jail on bond.
