Woman charged for shooting at officers through hotel door

(WBIR) A woman who fired at police officers through a hotel door has now been charged.

According to Blount Co. Sheriff James Berrong, Paula J. Silver, 43, of Maryville, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of felony reckless endangerment.

She is being held at the Blount County Detention Facility under bonds totaling $15,500. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 31.

Blount County authorities arrested a Maryville woman on Sunday after she shot at several police officers from inside a hotel room.

It happened a little before 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hilton Hotel located within walking distance of McGhee Tyson Airport.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office said airport police were sent to check on the 43-year-old woman who had checked into the hotel.

She then fired at officers through the door when they tried to contact her from out in the hallway.

Officials said the bullet went through the door and into an empty room across the hall.

None of the officers were hit or injured in the incident.

The woman eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

Authorities said she faces multiple charges including three counts of aggravated assault and felony reckless endangerment.

She's expected to be officially charged on Monday.
