M*A*S*H Actor Alan Alda stopped by the University of Tennessee Tuesday to speak about the importance of communication in science.
Along with being an acclaimed actor, Alda is also a science education fan.
His appearance at on campus coincides with a visit to Oak Ridge National Laboratory for workshops.
Alda's topic was "Getting Beyond a Blind Date with Science." He says most scientist have a hard time communicating with others about their work.
He credits his role on M*A*S*H for giving him good people connecting skills. These skills are especially utilized when he hosts the PBS show Scientific American Frontiers.
"I had that connection with them. I was just there trying to learn, and their connection with me became something that was alive. This thing that happened between us, a living experience and that translated onto film," said Alda before the event.
Alda helped found the Alan Alda Center for communicating science. It is based at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York.
